Action Alert for Gun Owners
I just received this from my daughter. I will be sending out some emails asap. This is a great amendment. I don't carry-yet but it is a real hassle having to look up each state you will be traveling through to see if there is reciprocity. My PA carry permit works in Idaho but an Idaho permit will not work here? Go figure.
Vitter Amendment Creates Concealed Carry Reciprocity
Contact Your Senators Right Away!
Senator David Vitter (R-LA) has introduced an amendment to HR 980 requiring states with concealed carry laws to honor the concealed carry permits from other states. The amendment could be voted on as early as Wednesday, May 14! Your immediate action is needed.
Authority for such a law is found in Article IV of the Constitution, the so-called 'full faith and credit provision.' Under this provision Congress can pass legislation forcing the states to recognize the 'public Acts' of other states.
The amendment does nothing other than protect the right of citizens who are permitted to carry concealed weapons in their home state while in any other state that allows concealed carry. It would neither establish national standards for concealed carry, nor create a national carry permit. All state laws concerning concealed firearms will remain intact.
Please contact your Senators and ask them to vote FOR the Vitter amendment to HR 980. Senators can be called at 202-224-3121 or toll-free at 1-877-762-8762. You can email through their websites which can be found at senate.gov.
