Spiraling Inward
Air is chilling
leaves falling
to skitterskat across the lawn
day grows shorter
flowers bow their heads
colors lose their bright
It was in the snap crackle
of fall
when birds and people begin to
puff out
that you first spoke
winter would not be so cold
Together
four seasons tasted
the cycle now complete
let it begin again
spiraling inward
Air is chilling
leaves falling to skitterskat
my head is bowed
let the nights be long
protect me with fires light
yes, winter shall not be so cold.
